The new Tacoma pickup truck line was introduced for 2005. The Tacoma line offers the 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains, plus the popular PreRunner models that combine the 4x2 drivetrain with the raised riding stance and styling of the 4x4 models. This new line will make the consumer happy as it gives him/her more choices.

A few weeks ago, I test-drove this truck. It was such a delight to drive around. It is more responsive, more powerful and fuel-efficient. It's lower to the ground, which is good for women. As far as buying a truck, more and more women are going for the Tacoma.

What do I like about this truck?

The truck comes equipped with bold headlights and a grill, flush rear surface glass and structures. In one word, it has a higher quality appearance. You can find a more spacious interior which is facilitated in the Access Cab and Double Cab models by having the tumble-flat rear seats with underseat storage behind the rear seatback. The front passenger seat can fold flat to show a tray table. On all models, you will find dual bottle holders in driver's and passenger's side doors.

The car of the future is already here. It can be found in Brasil, South America. Forced by high prices of gasoline on the world market, Brasil has been experimenting with the use of sugarcane-based ethanol to fuel their vehicles.

If you are in Sao Paolo or Ipanema beach and see a drunk car coming at you, then you will know what it is made of. Brasil is trying to be independent. It's trying something that should be a model for all under-developed and developing countries. It's been trying to stay away from gasoline which is considered a finite product. It's been forced to fight the high costs of oil market controlled mostly by the oil-producing countries. OPEC must heed this lesson. So do the various American and Japanese automotive manufacturers. Cars must meet local and regional needs for renewable resources. Sugar cane is plentiful in Brasil. The government has done a good job of giving subsidies to the farmers to increase production. The farmers can transform the cane into ethanol which can be purchased at fuel stations all over the country.

American and Japanese auto makers such as GMC, Lexus, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, Infinity, Honda, BMW, Mercedes and Peugeot must try to do like Volkswagen. In fact Volkswagen already sold the first TotalFlex Golf vehicle in 2003 in Brasil. Traditional gasoline model cars are taking a back seat in Brasil. Flex cars which can take either ethanol or gasoline are in high demand. Brasilian automakers can't just keep up with the demand. According to NPR and Christian Science Monitor reports, Brasil is one of the fore-runners of this type of conversion technology. Non-oil-producing countries will soon resort to developing their production of cane, beet, carrot, wheat and corn into fuels that can power vehicles. The US congress has already taken a look at this. All throughout the country, many school districts use some type of alternative fuels to power their school buses.

Flex cars save money. They are attractive to buyers who are trapped in high unemployment economies. Brasil will be able to export this technology as many countries are interested in cutting their dependence on gasoline.

Consumers worried about the potential increase of gas prices after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Gulf Coast oil stations did not want to venture far from their homes. They stayed home or close to their community. Many of them did not want to be seen as callous when many of their fellow men and women were going through hell in other parts of the country. This is not good news for the automotive industry. Coming from a good campaign which sold many 2005 models, they are now grappling with recalls. Especially in the case of Ford that had to recall some of its bestselling models due to engine fires, many observers are saying that the slowdown and recent natural events will hit the company's bottom line.

Even Toyota has also seen the slowdown. Its shares fell 7 cents to close at $83.78 on the NYSE.

Ford Recalls

Ford recalled 3.8 million pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. They are 1994-2002 model-year vehicles. NHTSA said that it has received 550 complaints about engine fires from the cruise control. So far, there have been allegations of three deaths stemming from these complaints.

Toyota is also recalling the 1990-1995 4Runner SUV, 1989-1995 truck 4WD and 1993-1998 T-100 pickup.

Gas Prices Cause Consumers to Spend Less on Transportation

As gas prices are going up all over the country, American consumers are spending less on other things and household items. They want to be able to afford to take the kids to school, go to work and eat something. They know that most of their incomes will go to fuel. With the recent devastation caused by the recent hurricane and flooding in the gulf states disabling many oil platforms, we,consumate consumers of energy, should expect to pay more for gas. The government is trying to help us out by tapping into the strategic oil supply. The President will allow the temporary use of some of the supply.

It does not take a scientist to figure out that the remaining months of Summer and the beginning of the Winter season may bring bad omen. Heating oil is going to be costly unless the major oil-producing countries including Venezuela, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria can up the productiong. Already, the house of Saud and president Hugo Chavez have said that their countries want to provide oil to help the US.

It goes without saying that the money that could towards new cars will be gone. Having said so, the auto industry should expect to discount more. That also means that they may not make much money doing so. The volume of their cars will go down but so will the profits. People are staying away from dealerships. They are afraid of sharks lurking in these dealerships who are waiting to exploit them. When GMC runs their campaign, many unsuspecting buyers got ripped off. The Employee Discount helped bring consumers into the dealership, but the finance guys resort to the same old tactics by adding so much on top of the price which balloons to exceed what was advertised. I am going to get $4000 from Kitahara GMC, Pontiac dealership. Even though I explicitly told the finance guy that I was going to refinance, he threw some of the services which brought my fees up. He'll have to repay. At least, his maneuvers are being revealed.

Very few consumers will be able to afford to buy new cars. The 2006 models are expected to do poorly in the various dealership lots. SUVs are expected to do even worse. People know them as gas guzzlers. They are staying away from them. Considering that the auto industry has bet on them for the past few years, it's going to plunge them into more debts. Unless gas prices go down, these companies should expect some tough months.

Nissan is committed to a high level of customer safety, service and satisfaction. The company is working with its dealers to address the problems of this recall.

Nissan North America Inc. is announcing the recall of 140,000 Murano SUVS due to a broken wire in the alternator which may cause the depletion of power to the engine. So far, the company has not recorded any injury or crash related to this problem.

According to NHTSA, a wire could break inside the alternator and prevent the battery from charging properly. Now, that's good news. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is taking a proactive stance to avoid rash of traffic accidents. The recall involves 125,000 vehicles from the 2003-2005 model year and 15,000 vehicles in Canada.

NHTSA is not sleeping. It has opened investigations in the 2002 Grand Cherokee and 2001 Acura MDX.

Toyota Company to Recall Popular Sienna Minivans and Tundra Access Cab

For every Honda Odyssey you see on the road, you may see two or three Toyota Sienna Minivans. They are that popular around here. Now listen up. Get all the recall news you need to have.

Due to difficulty in retracting the seat belt in some positions, Toyota Motor Co. is set to recall more than 345,000 Sienna minivans. So far, the company has received 14 complaints. There has not been any injury related to the malfunction of the seat belt. Toyota will send letters to the owners of the affected vehicles.

The part that is causing the problem and needs to be replaced is called the Bezel. All replacements will be free to the owners. The voluntary recalls include Sienna vehicles from the model year of 2004 and 2005.

A friend of mine who owned a Sienna Minivan brought this to my attention. He had just traded it in to go with the GM Employee discount. He was mad over the performance of the vehicle. He told the dealer that he thought he was ripped off because the value was not held. The dealer wanted to offer less than the blue book value. After negotiations, he got what he wanted. He now owns a Yukon which his wife drives. Let's go back to the subject of this recall.

The problem affects the right side chair in the middle of the vehicle and the center seating position in the second bench.

Let's go back to 2003 when the company recalled more than 30,000 Sienna minivans from the 2004 model year. Then, the problem was that the fuel tank was prone to damage and cause fire. The problem was later solved. Toyota Motor Co. has a history of finding out and fixing its problems. It takes consumer's feedback seriously. Personally, my experience with any Toyota vehicle has been great. The Toyota Corolla equipped with side airbags saved my family's life.

Another recall you must know about. Toyota is also recalling 2,500 Tundra Access pickup trucks from the 2005 model year because the wrong lens was installed.

So after dropping by Starbucks to fill up on the mocha, we headed down to the Dodge dealership to haggle, bargain and test drive some new 2005, 2006 models.

Even though the San Andreas version was rated M for Mature, many parent groups and politicians such as Hilary Clinton and others kept saying that this new game should have been rated higher to keep it away from children. Due to explicit sexual content and raunchy sex scenes and violence and under pressure from the public, Rockstar Games said that it has stopped making the current version of the game. In the current version, graphic sex scenes can be unlocked with the right download. However, something more sinister may have been all along. Senator Clinton said that the company admitted that some of its rogue engineers may have embedded this capability in the video.

"Rockstar's parent company, New York-based Take Two Interactive Software Inc., acknowledged for the first time that the sex scenes were built into the retail version of the game. Company officials previously suggested that a modification created by outsiders added the scenes."

The hardcore gaming community has long known that there was a way of unlocking those graphic, torrid sex scenes in the video. They have long been using Hot Coffee to get to their ends. Take Two Interactive Software inc, the parent company of Rockstar Games, accepts the blame for its engineers. They stated that sex scenes were built into the retail version of the game.

Fast, Faster: Hold onto your Acura Model: It's Popular with Street Racers

The Acura Model was one of the most stolen cars in 2004. According to CCC information Services researchers, the 1999 Acura Integra coupe was the most-swiped car. That does not mean that Integras from other model years were not appealing to car thieves who most likely are street racers.

2005 Hyndai Sonata is right on the Money!

The Hyundai Sonata is truly an economical car. It's been a great journey from the 1980s when sales of the Hyndai vehicles went down the toilet. The heads of the company did not pack their bags and left the US. They poured research and money into the vehicle. The company's comeback is legendary. They went back to the drawing, designing board to be able to bring something that the American consumers will buy. After managing to build an assembly plant in the US, sales took off. The South Korean leaders realized that the future of the company lies within the US. They zeroed in on Montgomery, Ala and the rest is just history.

No wonder that Hyndai engineers continue to proclaim that the Sonata is as good as Toyota Camry and Honda Accord sedans. Being the proud owners of Honda and Toyota autos, I know that the issues of dependability, quality, durability figured high in my calculations. So Hyndai has to give consumers like me reasons to switch gear. Hyndai set out to build its image after the fiasco with Excel.

According to J.D. Power and Associates, Hyndai has managed to succeed in many areas. In the minds of most Americans, the image issues is resolved. The Sonata has received the title of Most Appealing Entry Level Midsize Car for two years in a row in the annual Performance, execution and Layout study. The Sonata is loaded with standard features including air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, power door locks, power outside mirrows, digital quartz, fog lamps, remote keyless entry with alarm, center console with storage box, cargo area lamp etc.

What does its interior look like? Please see the pictures!

At 71.7 inches, the Sonata is slightly wider than the Camry. Three people can fit in the rear seat, but it will be a tight squeeze. Headroom and legroom are sufficient for taller occupants. The split, rear seatback folds down for additional cargo room. Trunk space totals 14.1 cubic feet.

Standard equipment in the GL includes air conditioning, a CD player, cruise control, a tachometer, remote keyless entry, and power windows, locks and mirrors. A cassette/CD stereo goes into GLS and LX sedans. The LX adds leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver's seat and automatic climate control.

Under the Hood
A 170-horsepower, 2.7-liter V-6 is standard in the GLS and LX sedans and available in the GL. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder produces 138 hp. The four-cylinder may team with either a five-speed-manual or four-speed-automatic transmission, while the V-6 works only with the automatic. The automatic transmission incorporates a provision for manually selected gear changes.

Safety
Seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front seats are standard. Antilock brakes are optional.

Driving Impressions
In its current form, the Sonata has closed in quickly on the league-leading Accord and Camry. Even though the ride is pleasantly smooth, it's not quite on par with Honda and Toyota models because the Sonata's suspension tends to take an extra bounce at times on rougher pavement. The Sonata is an easy car to drive, but it doesn't deliver an athletic driving experience. It handles nicely for everyday motoring. Though it's ordinarily quiet, a bit of engine noise is present during acceleration.

The long-lasting American sports car is getting better and better. Wait until you start talking about the Z6. If you enjoy driving a nice car, the 2005 Chevrolet Corvette is yours. That's what I found out when I test-drove it last week. The one I tested has a six-speed manual transmission. I enjoyed the acceleration. It was not anything like its forerunners. The Corvette is very responsive, agile and well balanced. I had no trouble getting to the speed I wanted. Let's talk about numbers. The new Corvette is 5 inches shorter in length and an inch narrower, but the wheelbase is longer. It gives this mileage: 22.6 mpg average. It does zero to 62 mph in 4.2 seconds. The top speed is 182 mph. The LS2 6.0-liter small block V-8 engine becomes the new standard in the Corvette. You can imagine the type of performance it delivers. It comes equipped with 400 horsepower and 400 lbs.-ft. of torque. The top of the new corvette is lowered by pressing a button. The cover in front of the cargo deck raises, the canvass top folds into it and the cover closes in a matter of seconds. The base price is $51,445. Now if you want to add options, it will be more for sure. While I was driving down the freeway, I did not hear any specific noise. No interior noise either.

The Biggest Vehicle Recalls Ever: Get the List of Cars

General Motors Corporation wants to make sure you are safe on the road. Way ahead of the high Summer traffic, the corportation is recalling some of the best known and most popular makes. From sport utili vans and pickups to cars, the company is letting consumers know that their vehicle seat belt design may be faulty.

To adhere to SEC rules and regulations, GM has to report these findings. It is reporting that some minor injuries are associated with the six separate recalls. If you own one of these GM vehicles, just be notified. You will also receive mail providing you with more information.

From the 2003-2005 years, 1.48 million SUVs and pickups are being recalled. These vehicles include ever popular makes such as the Chevrolet Silverado Crew Cab, Suburband, Tahoe, Avalanche; Cadillac Escalade s, GMC Sierra Crew Cab, Yukon XL, Yukon, and Hummer H2s.

What's the problem with these vehicles?

The center safety belt in the second row of the SUVs and pickups, used for child seats, was riding high on the occupants' stomach or abdomen. In the event of a crash, the company's spokeperson said there could be reduced protection in that part of the body in a crash.

More recalls are announced for these vehicles:

330,000 1500 Series Chevrolet Suburban and Yukon XL from the 200-2001 years are recalled for potential overheating of fuel pump wires that could lead to engine stalling. No crashes are known for this category.

About 142,000 1500 Series Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups from the 1999-2002 years and 250/3500 series pickups from the 2001-2004 modle years with manuel transmissions are being recalled for parking brake friction. How many crashes? 26 crashes have been reported so far.

69000 Buick Lacrosse and Buick Allure 2005 s from Canada are recalled for a bent clip that holds part of the brake.

39000 Buick Rendez-vous and Pontiac Azteks from the 2004 y ear for intermittent stalling or failure to start are being recalled because of a faulty ignition relay.

The Associated Press is also reporting that 22,000 Saturn L Series Wagons from the 2002-2004 year are recalled because they were built with a center and passenger side rear seat belt anchors that do not comply with U.S. and Canadian safety standards.

If you own any of the above vehicles, you need to go into action with the information contained in the letter GM is going to mail to you. Or contact the dealership from which you had purchased the vehicle.

Model year 2005 Acura MDX, Ford Freestyle, and Jeep Grand Cherokee earned the top rating of 5-stars for all available seating positions in frontal and side crash tests announced the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in their SUV Crash Test Summary. New 2005 ratings for frontal impact are available for the following SUVs: Acura MDX, Buick Rainier, Buick Rendezvous, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Ford Freestyle, GMC Envoy, Hyundai Santa Fe, Isuzu Ascender, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Nissan Murano, Nissan Pathfinder, Nissan Xterra and Saab 9-7x.

^ = During the side-impact test, the driver door became unlatched and swung open. The Rendezvous is equipped with standard Automatic Door Locks (ADL). NHTSA test protocol disables ADL during testing. A General Motors test showed that the door remained closed under similar test conditions when the ADL was activated. A door opening during a side impact crash increases the likelihood of occupant ejection. This test result is a carryover from earlier model years.

^^ = During the side-impact test, the head of the left rear passenger dummy struck the side upper interior structure, causing a high head acceleration. High head accelerations have a higher likelihood of serious head trauma.

Defect: The A-Lok adjuster assembly can allow slippage of the webbing resulting in loosening of the harness straps. If the slippage were to occur in the event of a vehicle crash, the child would move too far forward, possibly increasing the risk of injury.
Corrective Action: Registered owners will receive a replacement adjuster strap by September 30, 2004. In the meantime, registered owners will receive instructions on how to check the seat for slippage after every use. "ON CERTAIN PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL CABLE LOCK NUT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN TIGHTENED TO THE PROPER TORQUE SPECIFICATION. IN THIS CONDITION, THE LOCK NUT MAY LOOSEN AND COME OFF, WHICH WILL REDUCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE PARKING BRAKE.

Consequence:
THIS CONDITION COULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO ROLL IF THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT PLACED INTO THE "PARK" POSITION AND THE VEHICLE IS PARKED ON A SLOPE, THUS RAISING THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH.

Remedy:
